The Social Studio @ RISE festival

The Social Studio is proud to launch their Winter’10 collection at the first ever RISE Festival at Federation Square on Sunday 23rd of May. Amongst musicians, DJ’s, dancers and comedians, the talented designers from Social Studio will showcase their latest range in a catwalk show at the BMW Edge centre.
Both the Social Studio and Remixed women’s and men’s designs will be modelled by the students and friends of the Studio, and available for purchase after the parade - alongside other fantastic garments, jewellery and accessories. The collection encompasses unique and stylish pieces perfect for Melbourne’s chilly months – if you want more of a sneak peak, come down to the studio and see the designers in full swing…
We’re a little excited here to say the least, and we’d love to see your smiley faces down at Fed Square on the 23rd. And as always, if you’re in the area, please pop for a coffee, a browse, or just a chat!
The Social Studio is a dynamic space where clothing is created from the style and skills of the young refugee community. Recycled and excess manufacturing materials are gathered from local industry and re-configured into original clothing.
The Social Studio empowers young people to achieve their dreams through creating jobs, providing education, encouraging community engagement and social inclusion. This unique social enterprise develops work and life skills in a highly motivating context and encourages young people to follow their aspirations RISE (Refugees, Survivors & Ex-Detainees) is a not-for-profit association, existing to assist refugees, survivors of war, migrants and ex-detainees from around the world to meet their needs in Australia. RISE advocates on its member’s behalf to improve government refugee policies and to generate positive social change. RISE undertakes projects that benefit the welfare of refugees, survivors of war and ex-detainees in Australia.
